From Farm to Tray
A sustainable food & wine benefit for Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen
Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen is the largest emergency food program in New York State, serving over 1,000 meals every single weekday to hungry and homeless New Yorkers.
From Farm to Tray is an annual celebration of food at the soup kitchen, challenging New York City chefs and high-profile culinary names from across the city to produce a Sustainable Menu with local ingredients for each dish generously provided by Whole Foods Market. Since its inception in 2013, From Farm to Tray has raised over $600,000 in cash and in-kind donations and introduced 60 new partnerships to Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen. Thanks to the continued support of our generous sponsors and dedicated volunteers, 100% of funds raised will go directly to support the operations of Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen.
Each year the benefit attracts over 300 guests, including longtime soup kitchen supporter Susan Sarandon and Susan Ungaro, President of the James Beard Foundation. The idea for the fundraiser is firmly rooted in the approach to food that shapes the soup kitchen’s menu each week – the use of fresh locally grown produce, a commitment to nutritional balance, and the importance of providing a variety of taste and texture.
Like the soup kitchen guests who eat here every day, guests at From Farm to Tray will dine in the beautiful sanctuary of the landmark Holy Apostles Church, a space that New York Times journalist and soup kitchen supporter Anna Quindlen dubbed ‘the most majestic dining room in New York City.’ And like the food served here every day, the Sustainable Menu will offer food that is locally grown, in season, and perhaps most importantly of all, delicious.
From Farm to Tray 2016
Our From Farm to Tray event on May 19th was a joyful celebration and we are grateful to our supporters for making it one of the most successful fundraisers at the Soup Kitchen. We are profoundly touched by the outpouring of generosity and support.
Event attendees enjoyed the delicious food prepared by some of NYC’s most talented chefs! Thanks to their gift of time and talent the funds raised go directly to thousands of well-balanced meals a day we serve every week.
Special thanks to our our honorees Ian Frazier and Deacon Bob for their gifts of time and talent throughout many years of dedication to Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen.
It was the generous collaboration of the dozens of corporate, event, beverage, food and silent auction sponsors and host committee members that showed once again what a dynamic community of friends our soup kitchen is fortunate to have. It’s a community built on the foundation of hard working volunteers, whom we are grateful to as well. We are truly heartened to know that New York’s most vulnerable will continue to be held in compassion by so many supporters like you.
Please enjoy memories of the 2016 From Farm to Tray in this Facebook photo album and the video that was shown at the event.
